A survey by recruitment firm Hired reveals that 70% of UK tech workers have considered moving abroad as a consequence of Brexit; whereas 41% stated that they are less likely to open a business in the UK for the same reason. Whilst it feels improbable that the UK will close its doors to talent when we leave the EU, it is the uncertainty in the meantime which perhaps presents the bigger risk. The tech industry accounts for 13% of UK employment and has been one of the biggest growth sectors in terms of headcount, GVA and take-up of floorspace in recent years. Part of this success has been due to industrial agglomeration, supported by scientific funding, which has been developed over many years. If it goes, it will be much harder to bring it back.
