New Friends

At Apple’s WWDC17 event last week, it launched its new product, the ‘HomePod’.  Designed to compete with Google’s ‘Home’ device and Amazon’s ‘Echo’, this is the tip of the iceberg about how our homes will work in the future. Ostensibly smart speakers, these devices form a new digital interface for interacting with our homes. Playing music, setting reminders and checking the weather isn’t the main event here. Soon we will have full voice control over our houses. This already extends to turning on lights, opening doors and ordering groceries. Tomorrow, it will be a personal concierge, shopper, PA, and potentially a companion. Let’s hope that our connectivity infrastructure can keep up.
