Trump’s attitude towards China appears less favourable, with the President-elect having stated pre-election that he would impose a 45% tariff on imports. Meanwhile, Vice Premier Ma Kai described China’s relationship with the UK post-Brexit as “one of our most important in the world”. In a press conference with Philip Hammond, Kai noted: “China will have a middle class numbering 600 million by 2020 – that is greater than the entire population of the EU”. Over the period since Jan 2010, almost 50% of China’s c. £12bn FDI into the UK has taken the form of real estate.
