A recent report by KPMG finds that global investment in Fintech declined substantially in 2016, amid global political uncertainty. A recent decrease in M&A and PE funding is cited as the principal cause; however, it is noted that 2015 was a particularly strong year. Of interest, although the value of investment fell considerably, the deal count remained relatively high, suggesting a shift in focus toward start-up activity. Fintech has been a notable growth area in the London property market in recent years, with HSBC taking 65,000 sq ft in the Blue Fin building last year, and with start-ups contributing to a general growth in co-working space. However, a recent report by Coadec points to the UK’s wider world-leading infrastructure in cities such as Cambridge, Oxford and Manchester. Insuretech is seen as a potential growth area looking forwards.
