Devolving Duties

Calls for devolution of powers were always to be expected following a Brexit vote. Sadiq Khan is now playing his hand with regard to London, in the form of the London Finance Commission. Originally conceived under Boris Johnson, the Commission proposes that stamp duty, business rates and council tax are retained locally for investment in infrastructure. With London creating 30% of UK tax revenue, devolution is likely to lead to greater division in wealth across the country. Could Brexit trigger regional as well as national segregations?
