Behind the Blocks

Theresa May has now jumped over the final hurdle needed to serve notice on the EU of our intention to leave the bloc. She may do so at her discretion – probably at the end of the month. An important, unanswered question is whether the service of such notice is revocable. If it is (its author believes that to be the case), then the negotiations with the EU would need to be undertaken with a mind to the fact that Parliament may ultimately vote against the terms and withdraw the notice. Although a Remain outcome feels remote, presumably this would put the negotiators in a stronger position than if faced with an otherwise binary result (in on the EU’s terms, or out).
