Amazon flows into Lake Ontario?

Seemingly not content with traditional buildings, Amazon is becoming more creative in looking for warehousing solutions. Following lofty designs for Zeppelin hosted storage and beehive shaped drone hubs, a patent for an Aquatic Storage Facility has surfaced. Waterproof canisters containing packages can be inflated on demand, rising to the surface of lakes or reservoirs where they are collected and distributed by drones. Automatic flotation removes the requirement for robots or staff to travel ‘several thousand feet’ to process the order, instead letting the water do the work. Canals, rivers, lakes and reservoirs account for c. 7% of UK land coverage – albeit not typically well located for logistics operations. For Canada, however, home to 60% of the world’s lakes, this could be a viable proposition.
