All that Glitters…

Congratulations to Team GB on a record medal haul! With 27 golds, Great Britain beat China to second place in the rankings and won almost three times as many golds per head as the table topping United States. A proud time to be British, and without taking anything away from the athletes, some proof that money can indeed buy success. With a reported £350m pledged to this endeavour by UK Sport since the last Games, we have spent c. £13m securing each gold medal – which are actually 98.8% silver and worth more like £450. When the Olympics bus tours Manchester this October, I’m sure they’ll focus on the athletic achievement. But if they’d prefer to advertise the £350m cost, it’s understood that Vote Leave had a bus that would have required very little adaption for this purpose… albeit it’s now owned by Greenpeace.
